Recital Programmes

The following programmes are primarily offered for concert promoters, as ideas and possible starting points for programming. Exact repertoire choice and programme title is always flexible, though, and tailored to individual circumstances - don’t hesitate to email to discuss any specific ideas!

Robin is a friendly and engaging recitalist, and likes to talk to audiences to introduce pieces (and perhaps less familiar styles) with interesting information about composers, historical period and musical practice, and instruments.

Fantasia!

Absorbing, enjoyable and hugely accessible, this programme combines dazzling Fantasias and variations on popular tunes by William Byrd and John Bull with stunning works from the later baroque by J S Bach, Fischer and d’Anglebert. Superb for the smaller venue, and equally suitable as a full-length or lunchtime recital.

The Golden Age

The seventeenth century remains an undiscovered land for many listeners, even lovers of late Baroque music. And yet there are untold treasures - especially so in the harpsichord repertoire. Ornate, agreeable dances and sumptuous transcriptions from Lully's operas by Jean-Henri D'Anglebert contrast with more introspective, mysterious pieces by Johann Jacob Froberger and Louis Couperin.

The Well-Tempered Harpsichord

German craftsmanship at its finest! This programme looks at German harpsichord music's rise to brilliance from the warm-hearted Suites of Buxtehude through to the sublime mastery and glittering virtuosity of J S Bach's Toccatas.

The Harmonious Blacksmith

Brilliant, inventive harpsichord music from England. Suites and pieces by Handel (including the well-known Harmonious Blacksmith variations), Purcell and Thomas Arne.

The Goldberg Variations

J S Bach's masterpiece - enigmatic, exciting and moving.
